So decided to change the coolant in the '04. 5 and it looks like the drain petcock broke, can't get it to close. I found one at a dealer 20+ miles way so I guess I have a road trip in front of me to try get it fixed. Thankfully they allowed me to pay over the phone and are leaving it with the sales department since service will long be closed by the time I get there.

Heading out of town tomorrow for the weekend and need to get it fixed tonight.

I am not real familiar with how this one works, my experience changing coolant is with the old style metal wingnut type valve.

Anyone know how to pull the old one out? Is it intuitive how the new one will go back in?

Any help would be much appreciated!

It's done. A pain in the ***** to get the old piece out (thank goodness for offset needle nose pliers), and had to go 27 miles each way to get a $13 part, but several hours later it's finally done. Rest of the procedure was a piece of cake following tips posted by others in various forums, like removing the 3/8th plug on the head to vent while filling.

Note, if you're planning on doing this any time soon the drain petcocks (or whatever you call them) are on national back order. At least I must not be the only one dealing with this less than impressive plastic part.

Try taking off bottom radiator hose at engine that way you won't have to mess with petcock.

Not sure but I think you can get petcock at national auto part store.
