I drained the coolant out tonight on my 1996 2500 and after filling it back up, it drips from the drain plug. It is completely closed. I opened it and closed it a couple times but still drips. It seems to slow the drip if I turn it toward open a little.

I was wondering if anyone knew if it could be repaired or am I going to have to replace the radiator. It seems to have a rubber ring or some thing in it to seal it. It doesn't turn as hard as it used to either. Any ideas?

The drain plug pulls out and there is a 25¢ o-ring on it that you need to replace. I always replace it at every coolant change, cheap insurance because to do it after a change you're going to have to drop your new coolant.

Mike:

Mopar #'s

Drain cock 4592122, superceeds to 4644269

These two numbers may be for the inner/outer seals on the thermostat housing.

4761291

4797255

Any good Mopar man can get you the o-ring for the drain cock.

That's all the DC part numbers I could nab in a hurry. I know I've ordered some recently, but can't lay my hands on the invoice.

Good luck

Andy

I just had the same problem with the slow drip after a coolant service. I pulled the drain cock out and there appears to be two locations for o-rings. The drain cock I removed had one o-ring on the inboard side only. Should there be two o-rings? Thanks in advance. Marc

When you reinstall the plug it helps to put some silicone grease on the "O" ring. Otherwise you may tear it and that is what causes them to leak.

All fixed. The o-ring I used was size F10 (or something like that) which translates to 9/16" I. D. , 3/4" O. D. , 3/32" Diameter. Marc
