I have a 2001 2500 an want to change the coolant and could not find the drain last night. I found a little petcock on the drivers side with a flat handled valve that could be turned 90 degrees but nothing came out. How often should one change the colant anyway, this stuff looks nice and green and clean. I have 38000 miles and it is 18 months since new. Thanks.

I had the same problem when I tried to drain my 96. I figured it was just rusted over inside, so I took off the lower hose to drain it, what a mess. I learn something new from this site every day. Thanks!

The easiest way is a 5 foot piece of vinyl tubing. I siphoned out over 4 gallons on the last antifreeze change. Same as the petcock but faster than the petcock. Just take off the radiator cap and feed the tubing down to the bottom of the side tank (cross flow radiator). You can siphon directly into gallon containers for recycle or disposal. I change out 4 gallons every year in the Cummins and then use the one year old stuff in the old rigs.
