Tonight I while I was out admiring the "heart" of my truck, I leaned in to wipe off a water spot by the oil filler cap. As I did so, I noticed that my chest made quite a bit of contact with the outer cooler (A/C?). SO I started looking and it seems like it would be fairly easy to fabricate a small bar to go in front of this, towards the top, to protect it from yours truly. Just curious if anyone else has notcied, or even done something like this.....

There is a protection panel offered for the AC condensor, look at GENO's garage web page. It's basically just a folded steel overlay that is screwed into the core support(I think thats how it is secured. ) Rather simple idea but effective.

:)

I bought my truck a week ago and have already noticed the need for this condenser protector. I was going to build one for my '97 a couple of years ago and just never got around to doing it but this '03 really needs it. If this turns out as nice as I think it's going to, I might offer it as a product. :)

Did you get an '03 Brad? Does that mean an onboard air kit is in the works? :D

I hope not, I still haven't finished the one on my TJ.

Personally, I'm just going to home depot or lowes and picking up a piece of 2x2" angled aluminum and get some sticky two sided foam tape. cut and stick. less than $8:p

Good to see you over here Brad, what kind of products are in the works for the '03s???Oo.

Um, maybe! :D Yeah I snuck out a week ago today and bought a new rig. I retired the other Dodge to company truck duties. The boss can't be driving around a rig without OBA on it so it'll go under the knife pretty soon. Before I can begin, I need to find an aftermarket intake system that allows more room between the airbox and the engine so we can stuff the compressor in there. Got any ideas? I really don't want to get into the air intake mfg business but I will if I have to. Any intake mfrs reading this is welcome to contact me for some business too! :)

The angle is a good idea for the top of the condenser but what about the front? ;)

I haven't had the truck long enough to see what other products might be necessary. I'm open to suggestions though.

for now I am happy just keeping the tops from getting creased over:rolleyes:

The Afe intake unit looks to move things over a bit, at least in the pics I've seen.

Lots of intakes are out now, AFE, Bully Dog, Diesel Dynamics, and more that I am forgetting. . But I wonder if perhaps the Scotty 3 might be best for you, since it is a plastic cylinder and doesn't have a large metal heat shield it may (or may not, what do I know) give you the most extra space there. www.wildcatdiesel.com I think, or talk to RSnaith on here.

I think we need to protect it from gravel flying in through the opening in the front bumper (am I paranoid  ) as well. Something like a 'full face' protector for these co$$$tly radiators.

I can already hear some's comments, but flying gravel DOES exist, I've seen many when crossing timber rigs along country roads :{ . Dan

Something came though the large opening in my bumper and put a big ding in the AC condenser. Glad it impacted between the tubes. I have been trying to come up with something to protect that area from FOD as well as the top of the condenser.
