What is the best way to get the radiator out. I am sitting here with a radiator on the way and need to know the best way to remove it. The truck is the same thats in my signature. I also need to know is anyone has heard of VISTEON radiators. I paid $145 for it and I thought was a little cheap. I just need to know if the deal was too good to be true.

So. Nobody out there knows how to get a busted radiator out. I guess I will just start tearing in. I was just wondering if there was a way that you can remove the radiator without having to take the CAC, and condenser and all that jazz off.

not sure about the 04 but the 98-02 style isnt bad. when engine is cool... unhook both batteries, remove pos cble over rad. , remove rad. cap, open drain on lower dvr side,remove upper hose, unhook rad side lower hose, find and carefully disconnect washer pump from res. ,remove reservoir, remove overflow tank, remove shroud, remove radiator. may not need to remove res/overflow tanks I did. fan can be a pain I didnt remve it.

Sorry, no help here on something that new. On my 97 the condensor and intercooler are attached to the truck seperatly. Like DCreed said. The biggest problem I hade was I set in the new one, went to put in the bolts on top to support it and it wouldn't stay up there. So I looked at the old one and saw the rubber bumpers I was suppose to put on the bottum of the new one. Overal not bad, or much help to you.

Bigger Problem

Well sh_it. The radiator that I got was, what I feared... ... WRONG. what is it with the internet and getting bad service... . anyways I am now left dealing with people who cannot speak english and getting my money back and sending the wrong part back to "SENDER", and still am in need of a dang radiator. #@$%!



I need to know where I can get the right radiator for this 3500 truck, This just became even more of an emergency than it was.

I went to Carquest and they got me the right one the first time. Of ocurse as soon as I said Dodge the guy behind the counter got a worried look on his face because they switch designs so often

Check out local auto shop or radiator shop they mite have after market one that will bolt right in. But members have gotten radiators that fit from online companies.

I have taken out my 96's radiator should be about the same for 3rd generation. Go with DCreed directions about the only thing I did different was drain coolant at lower hose at engine. You should be able to place cowl over fan to remove radiator.

Maybe someone with a 3rd gen will join that has removed their radiator.

I've been getting radiators from radiators.com for other vehicles and they have been good to work with... calling when the order was placed to ensure they were shipping the right ones.



Visteon is pretty big mfr in the radiator world... generally pretty good products.



Removal... the service manual makes it look semi-easy.



1. Disconnect neg bat cable

2. Drain system

3. remove air box & turbocharger inlet tube

4. remove coolant tank hose, washer bottle hose & pos bat cable from the fastening clips on top the rad.

5 . remove hose clamps & hoses from rad

6. remove the p/s cooler mounting bolts and get it out of the way

7. disconnect the transmission cooler lines at transmission cooler. leave cooler attached

8. remove the 2 mounting bolts [upper side of rad]

9. tilt the rad toward the front of truk and lift out. the bottom is held in place by alignment pins... so seems like just 2 bolts hold it in place.



Seems to simple to be correct.

my 97 was easy

I put a radiator in my 97 last night in under 2 hours and that was with a 30 minute drive with flush in the engine.



jmadden is right only 2 bolts hold it up in. I took the hoses off, took out the bolt for the battery cable and set in on the engine. Unhooked the plastic fan cover and leaned it forward. Pick up on radiator and pulled it out, set in the new one and hook all back up. I could have done it in under an hour if not for the engine flush that I thought might be good for it.

well for my 98. 5 I paided about $331 at Kragen and waiting for it to show up. I decided to change the coolant when I was done I have a pressure tester got the pressure up to 15# and I could see coolant spraying accross the back side of the rad. Has a leak at the seam of the tank and coil. So I will wait to get it after memorial day better to chatch it now then when we leave for vacation this friday. thanks for input on the removal. the new rad is warrantied for life. ED

Wouldn't your radiator be covered under warranty. Unless you ran into something.
