You can upgrade to a cross flow radiator. I know if I ever need a radiator, I'm upgrading. Then you'll need the new style thermostat housing, dont know how much this item is or if available. ?? As far as coolant, no war here, it really doesnt matter what you use as long as you change it regularly. But yeah I know who wants to do that. I have been using Prestone dex-cool high dollar red stuff 5yr/150k mi. BUT, down the line and hopefully not to soon, if ya get a bad radiator hose-bottom-, then ya gotta drain your high dollar coolant and buy more. Best to knock out two with one stone, do the flush and fill along with all new hoses!... and clamps... Bill

Not a true comparison here as what I'm going to say mainly applies to aluminum heads, but I'll throw this in anyway.....

My son's repair shop makes a TON of $$ on the GM claim of 100K mile antifreeze.

Got to be close to one per week with close to 100K that needs a head gasket. Seems that the antifreeze picks up enough contaminates in that time to cause corrosion and eat out the gasket/aluminum interface.

I'm sure it has no effect on cast iron.

On the cross flow radiator, I imagine any radiator shop, parts store, dealer maybe, just have to ask for a radiator for a 91. 5-93 truck (intercooled). On the new style t-stat housing, could try junk yard, yeah I know a 1st gen in the junk yard-good luck, cummins or dealer maybe. Maybe get someone who has done this swap to chime in and tell us what is needed, part numbers etc... On edit: could try searching archives for 'cross flow radiator'. Bill

My truck has an updated radiator (dont think it is a MOPAR 91. 5-up unit- takes 5 gallons just to fill the engine and rad), and the OEM non-IC t-stat housing. It has some afro engineering, so say the least. I'll take some pics if I think of it.
