OK. . first time post. I’ve been waiting to see if anyone else has this situation with their truck, but I haven’t seen it mentioned, so here goes.

I bought my 2002 2500, 5. 9 HO, 6 speed, 4. 10 limited slip, with SLT package in August ’02. Truck was built in Feb. ’02. I’ve added pyro & boost gauges. It’s used daily to and from work, but I really got it to tow my 30’ Lakota 5th wheel. This truck replaced my ’97 2500 Ram V-10 – I got real tired of the automatic shifting down whenever it saw a bridge, hill or any other incline in front of it -- loved the truck otherwise.

So here’s the situation: the A/C radiator, engine coolant radiator and the intercooler are all bare, uncoated aluminum. Every other truck I’ve seen has black radiators (gas as well as diesel). When I’ve asked the service reps at a couple of local Dodge dealers, the response is ‘ hmmmm’ or ‘never saw that before’ or ‘ I dunno’ which, of course, creates a great deal of confidence in their shops. This condition doesn’t cause any problems with temperatures. Coolant temp runs right in the middle and the boost and pyro show normal readings for what I’m doing at the moment, according to what I’ve read in the TDR.

Does anyone else have radiators like this, or know anything about them?

Thanks,

Whenever I've seen black painted radiators, I've also seen what looks like brass wherever the paint has flaked away. So maybe brass is more susceptible to corrosion and needs to be painted? Just a guess from someone who doens't really know what he's talking about... :D

I guess I have a "transition" truck. My coolant radiator is black, but intercooler and A/C cooler is bare. Go figure...

My truck was wrecked and the black factory parts replaced with OEM unfinished (silver) parts. Had them paint them, I have a Black Sport. Black is better for heat transfer from the inside out.

I do know that Aluminum corodes easily so I can't believe the cores are unfinished. Just not black.

Thanks for the links. I'llcheck it our over the weekend. Also, thanks for the other inputs... ... at least I don't feel like the Lone Ranger. :)
