I installed a Kenwood KVT-719 and had to go to a radio shop cause it wouldn't play. They told me that the truck had an onboard amp. Where is it and how can I tap into it so the volume is louder than what it is now?

Did you install a new deck or an amp? After installing my new deck and amp I had problems with the existing factory plug. When I play the cd or ipod I get no front speakers, but when on the radio all speakers work?

I would check your ground. I haven't heard of any on board amp?

I believe that if your truck has the Infinity system that the speakers have amps built in. If you bought the deck on line contact them, I know Cruchfield will, they might give you instructions on how to fix it.

I believe you are right. I talked to the tech who installed and replaced my old infininity stereo in my 97 (with a new radio/Cd player) and he mentioned the speaker amps in the door where the front speakers are. I don't know how its wired tho.

I had the same problem on my 02. There is a baby blue wire in the harness for the radio, put switched 12v to it and you should have your radio back.

To add to JApol, the factory amp needs a 12V signal so that it turns on. On some decks there's a power antenna signal that can be used except the deck might turn off the antenna when the radio's not in use (like JNasty). And on some decks there's a specific power amp signal that's for extra amps. I don't know about the Kenwood; you need to look at the wiring diagram. if all else fails you can connect the amp signal to the accessory signal on the radio but then it's always on when the truck is on.

There is some kind of built in amp, I happened to be checking my fuses today and saw one, slot # 4 that is for radio amp.

Yes the infinity system has a aux amp. You need to connect the blue wire in the truck harness to switched 12v as another poster mentioned. The KW should have a switched output for an aux amp as many folks use subwoofer amps.
