My am/fm radio/clock died on my 97. It worked this morning and didn't this afternoon. All other guages/lights seem to be fine. The fuse in the fuse box looks fine also. Any thoughts?

Your dome light, glove box light, stuff like that still work? There is a fuse under the hood, as well as one under/in the side of the dash, don't have any specfic fuse numbers, but make sure to check both.

All fuses appear to be fine. All other lights work. Also have lights behind volume control/preset buttons/seek buttons etc. About 20 seconds after starting the truck a small (1/8") horizontal light appears where the clock/radio station display should be. No sound and no clock. Any thoughts. TIA

oooo sounds like the cummins might have rattled the guts outa the radio. . I`ve seen dodge radios go like this before, not necessarily in a CTD... All I can say is take off the dash faceplate, take out the 1/2" screws holding in the radio, and check your wiring, mainly check the ground strap. I`ve seen some come loose, and they can arc and cause this problem, but usually ending up in a fried radio. .

good time to upgrade!! heh (thats the first thing i did when i got my ctd)

Take this as a message from your truck that it is time to upgrade that radio. Aftermarket units are surprisingly cheap & can frequently be installed in less that 15 minutes. It is a little more tricky if you have the inifinity sound system, so allow 20 minutes. Something about a blue wire, can't really remember. This was also the first thing I did when I got my CTD.

The radio is incredibly easy to remove / replace in these trucks, I replaced the one in my '97 after the tape player gave up the ghost - it's a 10-minute job. All you have to do is carefully pull the edge bezel off from around the left side of the dash, just a few clicks and the radio is fully accessible. Do a search of the forums, there are a couple of threads that show you what to do.

I replaced mine with a factory unit provided by a kind TDR member, I could not find an aftermarket radio that didn't look like something a vision-impaired pimp would be wearing on a gold chain around his neck...

Drove truck this afternoon and display came up with last radio station # showing but no sound or clock. Went out to tear dash apart tonight and everything was working normally again. Must have some electrical gremlins in the truck. Thanks for the replies.

yea just ck. the wiring harness in the back and check that ground. sounds like thats your problem. . Ive also seen loose solder joints inside of the radios, that could be a problem also. . not as easily fixable tho.

if it did it once, it will do it again. if you have time, i`d tear into it.

Just pulled radio. Green/black wire (ground?) that screws into the back of the radio was broken. Fixed it and still have nothing. Fuses all good still. Is my radio fried?

Could be, I'm not a radio tech by any means. I have a stock 97 AM/FM/Cassette that I'll give up for a small donation.

Thanks for the offer but I'll probably go buy a replacement with CD player.

LOL, that's why I have a stock one sitting in the garage. I went with a Kenwood that will also play MP3s, a whole days worth of music on one disc.

When my wifes dodge radio died I went to walmart and put a new radio, converstion face kit, and wire harness in the cart it added up to close to $200. 00 I put it all back went on to ebay and bought her a dodge system out of a 2001 durango for $27. 00 with shipping
