I hate to even ask... My radio sometimes stops working: no time display and the little bass, etc. adjusters don't light up; green light behind knobs and push buttons is still lit; can't get CD in or out. Then sometimes it works fine. It's bad news, isn't it?

Doesn't sound good to me. That stinks, I think the stock units in our trucks actually work pretty darn good. They could have done without the little goofy joy-stick speaker balance thingy though, kind of cheesey. And, I'd really hate to have to add an after-market unit. Just my HO.

I had a stereo guy look at it today and after doing some electrical/fuse testing deemed it dead. They say it's an easy replacement, about 15 minutes to install a new one and they have a plate that makes the installation look nice. I'm looking into a stock replacement, though; not a bad stereo and I'm not really looking to upgrade... At least I know I can just pop the dash front off and take out a couple of screws so I should be able to do it myself.

Do yourself a favor and pull it out. Go to Crutchfield.com and get one of their units. They have a tab on there that will tell you what will fit by year, what you need and how to do it. If you can remove the old one, think its 5 screws, you can install the new one. Dont do an Ebay special, their junk.

Crutchfied has some nice head units for small coin. Mine gave up the last year.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking into options, as a replacement from Dodge is $405!!!!!!!! I'm thinking I could get a pretty nice stereo for 1/2 that. Like I'm fond of saying, breaking something's just an excuse to upgrade... :D

I think your 1/4 mi times are too fast for a stock diesel radio. You'll have to up grade to the viper model :-laf

As a stereo junkie replaced my stock asap (within days) I just checked my big box of stereos i've gone through and here sits a brand new, well 10 year old but never used stock Chrysler radio id be willing to part with. however it is not cd its tape with the controls to run the six disc changer which is mia. PM me if you are interested or need more info.

get a stock replacement off ebay, they usually don't cost squat as not many people want them and there is usually several up at any time

I replaced mine years ago and the box it was in collected dust in the garage. The radio in my son's Jeep quit, same exact radio. There are a lot of them out there. Change over to an after market is pretty easy too.

Thanks, that's a good idea I've already implemented! A friend gave me one with tape-only that I'm using until I get the CD player back in. I'm not ready to go back in time permanently. :-laf

I took mine to an electronics place to see if it can be repaired before investing in another one. Side note: I'm afraid of ebay.

LOL at fox...
