Any ideas. I installed XM radio in my Ram over the weekend. I bought the portable kind and you install it with an fm modulator. The modulator basically plugs into the back of the radio into the antenna wire hole, then you plug the antenna into the modulator.

Well, I went to put it in and Dodge and new style connectors for the antenna wire, so I went to Circuit City and got the adapters. I plugged everything together and the XM works great, I listened to it all weekend. This morning I turn on the 96. 1 FM radio to listen to the people I listen to on the way to work and I have no FM reception. So I listen to the xm til I get to work, then when I put it on, I have FM reception on 96. 1, but I work 2 miles from the radio station. I check everything else and I can’t get any reception other than what I’m right next to.

So ****** off, I figure I left the car antenna wire unplugged from the modulator. At lunch time, I go and buy a screwdriver, take the dash apart and the radio out. Everything is hooked up correct. So I completely disconnect the XM modulator and just plug the car antenna directly into the back of the radio (like it was when I didn’t have XM) and I still have no reception.

Any ideas.

I feel like an idiot since this is not rocket science. The only thing I can think of is some how the plug on the end of the antenna wire is messed up. But I can’t see how I messed it up when all I did was unplug it.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Nick

I thought I had the answer for you till I read the bottom of your post. With my XM radio I have to turn it off to get FM reception but since you removed the entire unit it doesn't sound like that is your problem... sorry.

I should also add that I also physically unplugged the power supply to the radio also. But I doubt that should make a difference.

there may be a junction in the antenna cable behind the IP somewhere that came unplugged. Probably happened when someone tugged too hard on the antenna cable while installing it.

Actually, I figured it out. On the plug on the radio, there is supposed to be a wire coming out of the center of it and it's broken. I guess I broke it when plugging and unplugging. Now I have to find a radio repair shop.

Thanks,

Nick
