The radio/cassette deck in my late '91 quit working abruptly. Fuse is good, but unit does not power on. The clock that is inside it doesn't come on either. I can insert a cassette tape and hear the tape drive motor running, but none of the controls work. Is there by chance an internal fuse in the unit ?

Had something similar happen with the one in my '01. Clock was intermittent, volume control worked sporadically, etc but it did at least work (after a fashion). Turned out to be a bad circuit board. Managed to find an electronics repair shop who fixed it but it wasn't cheap.

As DVolk mentions, you could buy an aftermarket unit; I opted not to because the new units don't include the cassette deck.

I am going to continue looking, Donovan. If I can't find one, I will take you up on your offer. I am trying to keep this truck all factory original...at least as much as possible. I am original owner.....original hoses are still in good shape on it, I just rebuilt the starter about two months ago for the first time ever....other than a couple of headlamps and the underhood light bulb, all the rest of the lightbulbs are the ones that came in the truck in July 1991.

I have one out of a 91 if your looking to keep things original, removal/install is fairly simple. But I agree with Dvolk, anything aftermarket is a large improvement and there are plenty of companies that make nice holders and brackets for aftermarket units.

Most radios have 2 power sources. One for key off "clock" time and station memory. The other power is for ignition on. So check all fuses including the IOD fuse. Check = remove fuse and check terminals for corrosion and hit it with an ohm meter.

Next I would pull the radio to where you can get access to the connector. See if you get +12v with the ignition off on one wire. Next turn the ignition on and see if you now have 2 +12v wires at the radio connector.

Check the grounds.

Last send the radio in to a place like this for repair. I have used them for getting impossible to find trip odometer gears before.
