Guys- The Infinity radio with equalizer/casette in my 95 went out. I removed the radio and and brought it to the daler for repair. They want $295 for a remanufactured unit. Before I make that investment, I am wondering if any of you folks have located an aftermarket head which is an exact and/or easy fit which has a CD and casette. The electrical connections to the radio are thru 2 ribbon harness connectors. I would hope to avoid making adapter harnesses. Any thoughts?? TIA

Fish,

Pioneer makes 2 models that are designed to fit the dodge/chrysler exactly. I have bought 2 of them from Crutchfield. For around $250 you can get a radio/cd with a detachable face and remote control if you like. They are WAY better than the factory model and they are easy to install. If you can do with out the tape deck I think this is the way to go. E-mail me if you have more questions.

You might check with some local places, too. We have bunches of them out here... Car Toys, etc... they are pretty fair pricing.

I have a Pioneer that is "GM/Chrysler size" aka "DIN and a half". I t has a CD player, Detatchable face and EQ but no tape deck. Took about 15 minutes to install with the Harness adaptor. Works great with the stock Infiniti speakers.

Alpine CDA-855!!!!

Din+. 5

Fits Perfectly

Sounds AWESOME. .

And... It's an Alpine!!!!

Nuff Said!

I have the Pioneer that is the direct replacement, CD no tape. I had to pull all the speakers out and rewire w/o there built on amps.

Drawson Worte: "I had to pull all the speakers out and rewire w/o there built on amps". I dont understand, you had the Infiniti system and when you added the Pioneer head unit you had to rewire the system to bypass the stock amps? And if so why? i hooked my Pioneer head unit right to the factory wiring and amps and its fine.

I hooked right in also and after putting in the head I was sick no bass All I had was the tweeters. Each bass speaker had it's own amp right on the speaker. I had to remove these amps and wire the speaker direct.

Maybe it's the year diff.

I guess so, thats just really wierd, mine had plenty of bass. I am going to ask my stereo geek friend if he knows why that happened. It seems strange that they would have changed something to cause a problem, but then again, DC does wierd stuff.

The area you have for a Stereo is a Din and 1/2 or 1½ Din. They sell dash kits that you can buy, and any stereo you want will fit the dash, the kit will make it fit. I love my new stereo, and the kit has a little pocket that is a perfect fit for my Remote. Any decent stereo you buy will me better (by a lot) than the stock Infinity Stereo. And for what they are looking to repair the stock one you can get a pretty decent CD or Tape player that will blow the stock system away.

Guys- Thanks for the inputs. I installed the new radio last Saturday. Not a bad job, took approx 3 hours including time to go shopping for stuff I did not have. I went with the Jensen due to economics. It has the casette and is equiped to accept a CD changer later when I can afford it. Total cost $129. I should add, that after talking to a tech rep from Crutchfield, I opted not to install the attenuators or bypass the orig amps by wiring direct to the speakers. At my age, my ears aren't that good, so I do not even notice any loss of bass.
