We recently "graduated" from a 2010 3500 to a new 2018 2500. We are now on our first road trip with the new rig and are going through areas where we are not familiar with the frequencies of the local radio stations. In our 2010 3500 we would push the "scan" button and the radio would find available stations, stop for a few seconds and proceed with the scan to the next station. When the scan arrived at something we wanted to listen to, we pushed the "stop scan" button.

We cannot find an equivalent "scan" function on the 2018 2500 radio. There is a "seek" capability that when pushed will stop at the next station, but does not continue on.

Can anyone help us find a scan capability on our newer radio?

Thanks!

And how does that help answer the OP's question?

Never said it did. I simply stated I basically don't because with Sirius I can listen to anything I want with no signal issue. As long as there is no obstruction to the satellite.

I gave up on using my radio in 2011 when I bought my 11 DRW.

So hey did you help the OP???

I'm sure that when somebody has an answer, either "here's how" or "it can't be done on your radio", they will post accordingly. In the meantime I'll use "seek" or identify online the local AM radio statiions that host the network programs we like to listen to.

All the tech on these trucks, and no scan. Go figure. I generally used it for the exact reason the OP stated. I enjoy satellite radio, but have not been willing to pay for it beyond the new truck demo. IF we start dragging the toy hauler around a whole lot more I may reconsider.

Just a thought. Sometimes there are undocumented features, try doing a long hold on the scan button I have other radios that go into scan when you do that. I don't know if it will work or not since I mainly listen to mp3's I have on my phone through bluetooth or Android auto.

Not really the radio feature you're looking for, but alternative would be utilizing either apple car play or Android auto, which I believe is standard in the 8.4" screen head units. From there you could utilize streaming music services like Pandora or Spotify.

I get it though, radio is just there and it's pretty easy to use. I just got sick of commercials locally and finding nothing but static when travelling.

I hope you find a solution that fits your needs

EDIT: Looks like Ipennock beat me to it.

FM radio is outdated, in a couple years they'll shut it down.
For exact the stated reasons above.

We like Sirius/Xm for good reception unless in a mountain canyon or at the base of a mountain South of you.

Along the main highways i just stream the music i want from the internet. Free.
Okay..... needs unlimited data for it.
Cell coverage within the US is amazing.

OK guys and gals. I'll fess up. What I am trying to do, while traveling around the country, is to listen to Rush Limbaugh on weekday mornings on AM radio! Not music! Not Dr. Laura!

Ozy what ever you are on please send me some, that's what I heard that about AM 40 years ago it was to be shut down in a couple of years, "who's years" FM will stay for quite a while yet, it serves the local population very well, not so much for the traveler. FM will be here after I'm dead and gone, new stations are still coming on line, but I believe what you are talking about will become very popular with the traveling public, but not at the expense of the FM stations.

Ozy please read this, some countries are shutting down FM for DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) Finland is not shutting down, in the U.K. a "FM license was renewed for 12 years until October 2028.” "Norway and Switzerland are pushing ahead with FM shutdowns, the medium itself seems not to be doomed continent-wide; at least not for the foreseeable future."
There are a lot of digital FM stations in Europe now which are upgraded FM to the digital standard that will be broadcasting for the foreseeable future, The US couldn't change over in less than five to ten years, FM may or may not be here to stay, it's way to early to say, digital FM looks like it is going to be a survivor because the other form of digital is not cost effective in the small markets. Digital AM is making a comeback(it might not happen I'm not betting on it), but not in Europe.
North America is already put in for Digital FM to free up band width, I'm thinking the opposite of you (free speech is nice) doesn't mean I right or wrong just a difference of opinion.

Try this out

You will use some data, and obviously have to have cell coverage. The app is free thou.

It does appear the scan feature is no longer part of the programming for am/fm. It does appear to exist in XM thou.

Now that free streaming is included with the basic plan I feel a lot better about the subscription cost. I have the app on my phone and it's what I listen to in the shop, or in rental cars when I'm traveling for work. Work also hasn't shut down the xm site on our network so I can stream in the office too.

Without the streaming it would be much harder to justify.
