While driving on a 90 mile trip today, I started to get static on the XM satellite radio. Switched to AM, same thing, FM same thing. The volume of the static stays the same. In other words I can turn down the volume of the music and the static stays at the same volume until the radio is totally muted.

I have the U Connect 8.4 AN radio. I thought it might come from my paired smart phone but turning off the phone makes no difference. Static is there with engine off and radio playing until you open the door. Also there in ACC or RUN with engine off.

I just went out and tried it again. Static! Then I stepped through all the things listed under MEDIA, disc, USB, etc. and then switched it back to radio. Now the static is gone.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Radio has been perfect for 6000 miles. Only thing different is I now have my Lance 850 camper on the truck, but it worked fine for most of the trip.

You may need to mount antenna differently. With overhead campers I have had to do that in the past. You should have access to the cables behind your passenger kick panel

It worked fine with the camper mounted and started to give problems in the middle of my trip. My camper is fiberglass and gets good reception with the shark fin antenna. If it was only the XM Satellite reception I would tend to agree on a blocked antenna. That doesn't explain the FM and AM with the same static noise because the antenna for those is on the fender and in the open. Plus the fact that since I've done the electronic switching from the touchscreen going from CD to USB and all the other available inputs, the static is gone again. I suspect something in the electronic switching hub got screwed up. As I recall, I had no static problem until I switched from satellite to FM and then back to satellite.

I think it may be one of those electronic gremlins that are causing strange problems with these new "computers with a motor" we call trucks today.
