My control knob on my radio works like it's not attached to the radio.

I can turn it down and it might go louder or stay the same. Anybody ever had this happen? I hate to buy a new radio if there's a simple fix. It's the factory cassette radio with the joystick balance control.

Not heard of this one before. The volume control doesn't tell the radio what volume level to set, it gives an indication of whether you want the volume to go up (CW) or down (CCW).

I'm sure the part is sealed, so cleaning would be difficult at best. But take out the radio, take it apart, and try spraying some electronics cleaner on it. Radio Shack sells TV tuner cleaner that works great. Also check to see if the part is soldered on well or your problem may be a loose solder joint.

One other possibility - do you have the radio buttons on the back of your wheel? Do you have a wheel cover. Can the wheel cover be interfering?

Nope, the only controls I have are on the radio. I'll try taking it out and checking the possibility of cleaning that area. Thanks

I had the same thing happened to mine. The volume control is bad. You will need to a new volume control put in. I will cost about $100. I got a new radio off of e-bay, up graded to cd model.

IIRC the volume knob operates an optical sensor. My old truck had the same problem, I took the radio out and apart as much as I could and sprated it with contact cleaner, compressed air. Worked fine afterwords.
