Rail Cap??? Is it helping or hurting?

Installed my Rail cap bolt inplace of the banjo bolt and the truck ran great but my new FASS 150 system fuel pressure went from 15 psi down to 7 psi. Took cap back out and fuel pressure stayed at 7 psi. I replaced the return spring and got 15 psi so I tried the cap again and within 200 miles fuel pressure went back to 7 psi. Replaced banjo bolt and new spring again and pressure is staying at 15 psi. Has anyone had same test outcome?

I just went to the local bolt shop and got two bolts for $3 and cut the bolt to the length it needed to be. It is a 14mm with 1. 50 pitch treads. Took out the banjo bolt and made sure the bolts was the same lenght. It worked great but did not like it eating my fuel pressure.

There is not anything you can miss align or o-ring. You take one bolt(banjo) out and install the seal washer on the new cap bolt and tread it back in. To tell you the truth a Power Stroke guy could do it. :-laf :-laf :-laf

When you have the pump maxed out and exceding 27,000 psi in the rail it may blow the cap off the end and you can put a rail cap/bolt in place to keep this from happening

I capped mine last week when doing some troubleshooting on my fuel system. It was easy and took a total of ten minutes. I did what Reb. B at BROWNS DIESEL reccomended. I bought a 1/8th pipe tap and tapped the banjo bolt inside and threaded a 1/8th pipe plug and threaded it in the center of the bolt then pot the banjo bolt back in and torqued it to 22 fp. No muss no fuss and looks stock. I don't see a power jump but does run smoother.

I took pictures and will try to post tomorrow.

What pressures are injectors capable of handling before being damaged? A capped rail sounds like an easy fix, but with the high cost of 3rd gen injectors is it really worth it?

thats a good question, for the average person, no it's not worth it but to those that want the best they must cap the rail, or duel feed it. for those that want to use any old bolt to cap there rail, i advise against it as many of the materials are not good for the fuel system and could corrode it and destroy your expensive fuel componets, not to mention most all of the bolts are NOT rated for 30k+ psi, now if you want a rail cap kit thats made for it' s intended use, and is made for the fuel system, i suggest you contact me or NADP we are the only ones that use this equipment made specifically for high psi diesel engines. Oo.
