I have a 98 with 80,000. I was talking to a friend who was told that the new common rail injection used on the new engine could be put on the 98 and above engines. Is this true and who could do it and how much?

IT's probably doable but would be quite involved I'm sure. The pistons are different, different head, have no idea if the oil & coolant passages would match up or not. Then the cost of getting the parts. . .

Actually; I'd be surprised if it was even do-able; since the injectors are way different (I think, could be wrong).

Even if you got the engine physically together, getting 2 different generations of engine computer and truck computer to talk would probably be a futile effort. .

Rather than converting my current engine to common rail injection, I wonder if it wouldn't be better to just wait for people to start crashing the 3 gen pickups and buy a complete engine from a wrecked pickup. Actually, I'd like the new axle ratios and disk brakes too :)

Did not notice if your '98 was a 12v or 24v. What are your reason for wanting the common rail injection? Just curious.

Now if it where me and I wanted to do an injection pump conversion on a 24v, I'd have to go with a P7100 conversion. ;) If I had the $$$$ I'd love to go this route on my '02 truck :D

the blocks are very diffrent on the MY03 engines. it would take alot of work to get the stuff to match. it would be alot easier to do a swap.

Thanks for the information, I was just wondering. A friend of mine was looking at the new '03 HO, and the saleman said he went to a trainging meeting on the new engine. He was told by the engineer that it would be possible, but he did not give a price. I have to wonder if the salesman was just pulling my friends leg. I was just wondering if anyone had heard this before, I guess my answer is no. Thanks again.
