This is the first time since 1979 that Motor Trend has givin the same truck, Truck of the Year two years in a row. Sounds like an awesome pickup with 19/26 mpg for a crewcab 4x4. However, not once did they touch on the fact that at a GVW of 6950# that only gives it an 859# payload.....what good is that for a work truck???

Dodge Ram definitely needs to do something to make the half ton a bit more competitive in the payload area. There are a lot of folks who would like to tow bumper pull travel trailers with a half ton but the payload is always the limiting factor. If payload was increased to 1800 or 1900 lbs they would have a few more buyers - me being one of them....

It looks like the GM pickup snagged the 2014 Truck of the year award and I would put money on the Ford F150 to snag the 2015 award. Both are nice looking trucks. I still wonder if this diesel in a half ton is going to work out for Ram. It seems like the price of fuel and epa emissions will be the downfall.
Notably Ford has had success in the Ecoboost engines. I can't believe they are going to use a 2.7 L ecoboost engine in the lighter F150. They definitely stole some engineering ideas from when they owned Volvo. I'm still not crazy about the idea of two turbo chargers, it bad enough to have just one. I would have to think that fixing an Ecoboost engine will be as expensive as fixing a diesel.

I have seen the Ram commercials, touting the back to back Motor Trend truck of the year award. I do not recall it being a diesel, why did you include "diesel" in your thread header?

Go to Motor Trend's web site and read the article. The 2014 Ram 1500 tested was the new diesel, it beat out 2 Chevy's, 2 GMC's and a Toyota in the 1/2 ton segment.

The diesel engine option was the only reason it qualified to be entered in the 2014 truck contest. If it wasn't for the motor, it couldn't even have been a contender.

I'll take your word for it, like stated, the TV add being broadcast doesn't imply diesel. Heck, I didn't even know a 2014 1500 Ram w/diesel was available yet, or was it a special release for the test?
