Thinking about buying a 4500 or 5500 truck around year 2010 to 2013. Most that I see have a 120,000 to 200,000 mi on them. Have there been any major issues these years? What are the pros and cons? Any help would be appreciated.

The EPA equipment is a little less than the regular pickups and are tuned for durability. Make sure to load the truck to smooth out the ride. A big issue depending on your State, is taxes and insurance, my C&C was hammered by Comifornia DMV fees. It took a lot of effort to insure as a regular pickup, as it was not used as a commercial truck. Moved to Nevada and found it a little less in DMV fees, but again it took an insurance agent to keep the insurance cost down. Transitioned to a 2019 3500 SRW pickup and celebrated the fact that I no longer worry about the insurance or DMV issues, I'm very happy now and not regretting it. Do your research prior to purchase. On edit, even the 3500 C&C has the same issues.

Some insurance companies don't want to insure C&C trucks especially above a 3500 as they consider them commercial. I had a 5500 that had a pickup bed, Gieco only insured because it had a pickup bed. Allstate wouldn't insure it.

AZ charges weight fees for anything over 8K and Motor Carrier tax for anything over 12K GCVW. You don't have to register at door tag GVW you can choose any weight you want; however, if you do get popped for over registered weight you will have to register at the actual weight, back dated to when the truck was first registered to you. (might only be current year would need to double check). These weight fees apply regardless if the truck is commercial or personal, 2500+ size.

When I was considering a 4500 C&C, I checked with Farm Bureau, my insurer in AZ, and they had no issue insuring a C&C for personal use. It's odd how things vary.

Farm bureau is probably use to them as their main customers are Ranchers and farmers. Geico and Allstate are more geared to city folk. ;)

To quote a price without coverages is not very useful. Also location, age of driver, drivers record along with credit score to name just a few.

AAA insurance would not cover my C&C, I was looking at $2200.00 a year. So I started looking, and as soon as I gave the VIN, I either got "I'm sorry, I we don't insure commercial" or "That VIN came up as a commercial truck, that will raise the insurance." I finally got AAA to insure it as a regular truck, it took a few inspections and they agreed. It ended up at @ $750.00 a year. Here in Vegas it was $1500.00 a year, however all insurance here in Vegas doubled, I ended up switching from AAA to State Farm, because the agent worked with me. It worked in his favor because after I traded in the C&C, and not needing any special care anymore, I rewarded him with all my insurance needs, and I'll stay with him.
