Does Anybody know if there is any validity to the rumor I heard concerning, "the end of Cummins engines In Ram trucks "
If so, what's the deal?
What is the replacement?
If true, sounds like a sad day.

Let me guess did you this from a ford/chevy buddy? These rumors have been around since the late 80's. Just like the ford owns/owned cummins.

I have an Allis-Chalmers motor grader with the Fiat-Allis name, powered with a Fiat/Iveco 5.9....

But after driving and owning a Jeep eco Diesel I think they did the right thing . I like the Little V6 Motor . Yes I'm sur it would of been Nice to have the 5.0 Cummin's but I think this Motor they used is doing a great job .

I'll bet there has been a lot of number crunching going on here. How much money can we save by putting in an Iveco over a Cummins, and how many potential sales will we lose by not sticking with the Cummins name... Something like 80-85% of Ram HD sales are diesel power, I'm sure even Ram realizes they wouldn't maintain the sales numbers by switching engine platforms.

Well thank you all responders. But these are all interesting but seems no one has a firm answer. Will the 2500/3500 RAM trucks continue with the wondetful six-cylinder Cummins engine?
Thanks, Mike in Fla

I believe they are already set till 17 but you never know . Me Personally don't think they will let the Cummin's Ram partnership split up.

When Fiat bought Chrysler, they went into negotiations with Cummins over the small V-8 diesel that Cummins makes. Negotiations fell apart and Cummins is selling the small V-8 to Nissan that is going into the new Titan Diesel. The Ram diesel in the 1500 is made in Europe or has a European design.

I and several of my buddies bought Rams in the recent past for the Cummins engine, not the Ram emblem on front. I am betting that FCA knows what they are marketing and the loss of the CTD on the side of the truck would cause them huge declines in sales.

Insofar as the Ram/Cummins relationship is concerned, I'll go with Mark Twain's quote - "The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated."

In other words, believe it when you see it.

If and when the Ram/Cummins relationship comes to an end it will not be a rumor on facebook and the forums.....It will be front page of the Wall Street Journal and there will be a couple year notice. Never say never, things change, did we ever think Fiat would own Dodge? Or my trucks cousin is a Ferrari?

After one Ford 6.0 oh oh, Powerstroke I am now on my 3rd Cummins truck :) But like many I still have my old '77 K5 Chevy Blazer and my wife drives a flawless Camry Hybrid. So I could jump back to Ford or GM if Cummins and Ram really screw things up and burn me as a customer.

Fiat Powertrain Technologies? What happened to Cummins engines in CaseIH tractors after Fiat purchased the company? http://www.fptindustrial.com/products/en-UK/onroad/Pages/homepage.aspx

Bill

Bill, Cummins hasn't been in any Case machine for at least 5 years, when fiat bought Case/ New Holland.

I have mentioned before in other discussions that FPT has a similar size engine- and I'll bet my dead cat that there's a test mule running around.
IIRC member Ozymiandis knows of these FPT/ Iveco engines and gave them a thumbs up.
