I'm interested in what brand of replacement shocks other Ram drivers are installing on their rigs. I've considered Bilstein, Edelbrock IAS, Monroe Reflex, and Warn Black Diamonds. What are you using?

------------------

I just installed Monroe "Bruiser" shocks. They are supposed to be the new replacement for the Sensa-track. Like them so far.

Jerry,
I bought my 97' with 62K on it. Did not like the handling so I the first thing I did was put Bilsteins on it. While I cannot compare with how it handled new, I like the ride. A new trackbar, stabilizer, etc. helped the steering... well you know the rest.

OK, here's the moderators mucking around again...

BUT!!! This thread is really a "products/accessories" topic, so I'm moving it over to that forum. Please carry on over there.

Thanks
Mark

Ram shocks suck, get Rancho 9000 and you will never look back... .....

My 2 cents...

I installed the Edelbrocks a couple weeks ago. These are the best shocks I've tried. The ride quality is like the Ranchos on 1 or 2 and the handling/control is like the Ranchos on 3 or 4. This is all the time -- no adjustments. However, if you carry a high profile, heavy camper they probably won't be stiff enough for you. My camper's not that heavy so I'm very happy with the Edelbrocks.

The inertia valve really does work as advertised (smooth over bumps, stiff in the corners and with body movement like coming off big bump).

If you're carrying a tall camper, get the Rancho 9000s so you can turn them up when you need them to be stiffer.

Compared to the Edelbrocks, you will sacrifice ride quality or handling with the Ranchos (depending on where you set them), but they'll help more with trailer buck and / or side winds when they're up on 4 or 5.

Kyle,
The best thing you can do for the handling of you truck while hauling a camper are the camper struts that connect from the camper overhead to thecowl area. These things are awesome and worth every cent. Completely eliminated any buck at all.

I'm very happy with my setup. My camper isn't that heavy.

I just know people with higher/heavier camper than mine and were not please with Edelbrock -- went to Rancho, screwed it up to 5 and they got happy.

I just changed out the stock ones to Bilsteins at 60,000 miles (last night)
$195. 00 delevered from Offroadwarehouse.com

If you have a rear sway bar, you may have to remove the RS sway bar mounts to get the shock bolt out. If you put the bolt back in the other direction, it may hit the sway bar.

The front was easy, the bilsteins have an allen head (hole) on the shock shaft. Just hold the nut and tighten the allen head with a 6mm allen socket.

Also note: Dodge uses some weird size fastners. Who ever heard of 18mm? There all over the suspension! (11/16 fits, but is tight).

Monroe SensaTracs - $110 delivered from CarParts.com. Would do it again. A real improvement in that annoying rear-end hop. It pains me to admit that an aftermarketeer has a product better than the EOM! The Monroe fronts have a nut on the top of the cover that you hold to tighten the shaft - rather than have to get a wrench and something else to hold the shaft.

I agree with tlippy (amazing! #ad
) on this one. The Monroe shocks are working really good on my '95. Very good control when going like a bat out of h*** in the mountains. Nice ride when taking it easy. No funny business when pulling my 32' travel trailer. AND no messing with adjustments! Just install and forget.
