I Just ordered a 2001 2500 4x4 Cummins QC with the Sport package. Has anyone put Tow Hooks on a beast like this? I really think they should have come with them. Can It be done? Thanks

<font color=blue>I don't have a Sport truck but I believe you WILL have to cut the bumper to install tow hooks on the front. Least everyone I have ever seen is like that, although with all these great minds out here maybe someone has come up with another system?? Maybe someone else will chime in here.

Also I am working on replying to your Email as we speak, give me a couple of minutes.

hey RamBill---not to "slam" tow hooks,... here it comes... . BUUT, a front receiver hitch only requires one 2-1/2x2-1/2 square cut out of airdam, and allows oodles more versatility than hook, which is pretty much "pull only"--- 2cents + electricity--welcome to the site--rich

My truck isn't a sport either, but I did add the two hooks on. I remember the instructions came with a template for the 'Sport' trucks to cut out 1"x3" notches on the bottom for the hooks to stick through.
If you ever stop by a dealership take a look at a Ram 1500 Sport with the Off-Road package... you get the idea of the cutting you need to do.

A vulgar display of power!

I installed Mopar tow hooks. Your right, Dodge should equip Rams with hooks. Any SUV on the street has hooks. Comes in handy for pulling downed logs out of the way on the dirt roads or stupid SUV drivers out of the ditch.

Hooks are about $140 and come with brackets to mount on frame. If you have the lower air dam you will need to cut holes for the hooks to pass through. Or remove the air dam all together. Hooks come with templates for cutting and good directions. Allow 1 hour or less install time. Look good too.

I am in the process of installing (will finish tonight). I don't have the sport (And after reading the directions for the sport, I'm glad I don't!) You have to cut holes and install support brackets. The instructions say you should have touch-up paint too #ad
I have the airdamn which required some cutting, but it's just plastic and if worse came to worse, I could just remove it or get a new one! The new "Off-road" package Dodge offers show how all the sports should have come (with tow hooks).

I agree every 4X4 should have them as standard equipment.

I like the idea of the receiver hitch inplace of the towhooks. You could hide the hitch with a license plate when not in use and it is very versatile! I may look into that as well - anyone know of something that works without having to custom weld brackets?

Draw tite has a bolt up hitch for the front - here's a couple of pics of mine. They are about $135 mail order - I went with it and a clevis that slides in rather than tow hooks after I got the price of the tow hooks. If you have a lower air dam you do have to either trim it or remove it, and I'm not sure whether they will work on the sport models.

I put on generic hooks that I bought at a Dodge dealer,$12 each or $15 for chrome. Had to cut the air dam and make an adaptor plate. The plate is just a piece of 1/2"X 2"flat bar with four 1/2"holes. They are plenty strong,I pulled a 10,000 lb forklift out of the mud recently. You could probibly pay less or get higher quality hooks somewhere other than Dodge,I just happened to see them on the dealers shelf a few hours after pulling a tree off the road with a rope tied to my front axle.

The sport off roads have the hooks and the bumper has been formed around them too. Why can't they make them where they fit right up. Another great DC idea.
