Guilty Plea for Diesel Emissions Tampering in WA State

That's interesting... I saw some doda listed a 2020 completely deleted here in NC on FB as is asking 55k for a bighorn with 160k miles on it.... Crazy if anyone bites that one. Its only going to get harder for those skirting the issue of emissions compliance...

I remember seeing the marketplace listing for the Truck in the article when he was trying to part it out.

There's already a target on diesel trucks as a whole, but owners are making it easy to be honest. From the pics in the article, I'm guessing here; but I'd assume that's a 5" axle dump exhaust system with a stupid large tip. That's asking for attention and ire in a state with strict compliance laws.

Much like squatted trucks here in NC, the law now in effect. But reading into a different article about it, there wasn't any DOT records or incident reports of squatted trucks being the cause of accidents/moving violations. The perception and attention they drew from the public put a target on them without any hard justification. Not that it should be only reactionary but you get my point.

I'm not trying to "inflate" the price of older emission exempt trucks, but know your state laws and emissions requirements before buying a diesel truck and think about what you want out of it during ownership weather short term or long term.

I'm failing to comprehend why he has to scrap it. He unregistered it so it's now an "off-road" vehicle. If he can no longer drive it on the road how is it not acceptable?

It's a dpf equipped truck. He say's it would take $10K to bring it into compliance.

And its tuned, going to need a reflash to recognize the factory components/sensors, assuming the ECU doesn't brick or throw a fit.

I'd imagine DPF prices have skyrocketed new or used given the increase in cat theft these last two years.

Yes, and the Smog Nazi's read the forums looking for those who brag about how they have removed emissions equipment. Not just on the diesel forums but on the muscle car forums, etc. Just sayin'.
