I will post a pic once I get it from the camera to the computer (i. e. when Mom gets back). As I was driving to work Friday morning, little before 7:30, sun had been up almost an hour, I had a deer jump into the driver's door of my pickup. I saw a flash of tan, then I heard a loud THUNK, and glass sprayed all over the cab. I stopped, got out, fully intending to vent some of my frustration on the crippled animal (officially, put it out of its misery) but the b*stard was GONE!!! Nowhere to be seen. It was open fields for at least a 1/4mi, save the tree line he/she was hiding in when I came along, and I saw nothing. Fortunatley, it was about 55deg, and I'd had the window rolled up, or it may have gotten real wild and western in the cab. Mirrors on the thing are tough- just knocked it aroudn and broke out the glass; frame is still as god as it was before. I had my arm on the arm rest, and the impact kind of jammed it up into my shoulder; got that taken care of after work, though;)

The day went downhilll from there. Friday the 13th was 4weeks late for me.

Well ain't that nice. Hit and run by Bambi. How bad is the door?

My uncle had a similar encounter with a tom turkey. Was just driving down the road with a friend in his '91 Ford last year. Heard a big thump and a bunch of feathers. They didn't find that one either.

Here's the door- gotta replace it. There are creases in it, and I dont think it would seal up for airflow. With winter (such as it is around here) coming on... ... ... Mom sneaked out this morning (early afternoon?) and put some plastic on it before I got up. On the plus side, got to drive my little woman's Dakota Fri and Sat nite; auto is much better than Mom's and my buddy's '97 1500. Boss is giving me tomorrow AM off to go get a door- Mom located two Friday- one for $100; other for $70. Naturally, the $70 door is an hour farther than the $100 one. When I get a bed, I'll have an excuse to get it repainted... ... Might win an old beater award at the get-together next month.

DP look at the bright side. You found doors. Everytime I need something like that there are none in the state to be had.

Iiiahhh don't know bout that one, you haven't seen my truck yet:D... Too bad you couldn't find the damn thing and take out some frustration on it, I know I would have to beat it with my hammer then throw it in the bed and take home, gut and skin it:D. .

Yeah, what Bill said about taking out frustration... . I would have pulled a Rocky Balboa on that thing! Then I'd try to fight like Jackie Chan and really lay the boots to him! Dammit man, you sure do have your bad luck spells :(

Got the door on, and put the old mirror on the "new" door. had a spare mirror head to put on it. Frame is a little bent, and I need to straighten it out. Took forever to get all the glass vacuumed out of the truck. Door is silver, cranky window. It's nice to be able to start a vehicle w/o popping the hood. I drove Mom's last week, as I was working 13hr days, and it was dark when I left for work, and when I got back. I aint driving without my mirror.

And yeah, I went LOOKING for the dang deer, fully intending to haul the carcass to my buddy's shop (1/4mi from his house, literally around the corner from him) and hang it up and skin it and cut it up there on the spot. But neither Bambi nor his dad were anywhere to be found. :( Gotta go deer hunting... ... ... Bus mechanic at the school Mom works at said the deer didnt last too long, though.

Ouch! Here in California we have these little scrawny coastal deer mostly. But back there you have them white tailed, big buggers. I don't think I'd want to tangle with one. My parents live in Warsaw, MO. Dad says there are alot of deer hit on the road. Glad to hear you didn't get hurt. Too bad about the door.

I know what your talking about there, here in Va. in the mountains where i live the deer are taking over, it has gotten so bad they even went up on our bag limits but i doubt that will work because so many horn hunt and will not shoot those pesky doe.

2 years ago i had to drop 6 because they decided it was time to eat our tobacco crop, needless to say there addiction was awarded with lead, I have noticed also around here that alot of deer collisions aren't from the front anymore, its almost like there hunting us by trying to come through the doors alot of side impacts here to.

Glad your okay and that the dodge suffered minor pain. Oo.

Jay, I was trying to save the ammo for those longer shots. :D I think this almost qualifies as road hunting... ... . It would, just across the river in Stoddard County  :-laf

Glad you are OK -- When I have a bad day, I go ride a horse! I hit a deer with a Toyota truck I had years ago -- had to replace just about everything between the bumper and the cab -- crumpled like a can.

Good luck getting everything back together!

Had the same thing happen several years ago. The truck was lifted, so the bottom half of the door took all the impact, then the rear tire got him. Window survived. :) This deer did a couple flips on the road while making some real nasty noises, then ran off into the woods.
