I have a 2001 Ram 2500 CDT and unfortunately live in the heart of the rust belt here in Pennsylvania. The truck developed a fuel leak (due to rusting away) from the line that comes from the bottom of the fuel filter to the low pressure side of the VP44 pump. I replaced the line with a few fittings that I purchased from Vulcan that eliminated the banjo bolts and converted it a 1/2" ID rubber fuel hose. I bled the fuel system first at the VP44 low pressure side and then at the injector side. The truck started up after a few cranks and ran great during my 15 minute test drive. Parked the truck for about 20 minutes and now it won't start. It cranks and I can hear the pump running after I crank it. Checked the truck for codes and I have two, 1693 (Companion Code) and 0230. I understand this has to do with voltage out of range on the lift pump, but what does that exactly mean. I went through the VP44 testing docs from Blue Chip and found that with the key in the run position I am getting 12. 84 volts on PIN 7 of the connector for the VP44 pump. When I attempt to start the truck, the voltage drops to about 9. 02 volts. Is that too low? I hope this doesn't have to do with the VP44 pump! It is only 2 to 3 years old and has less than 25,000 miles. I can only assume the truck got wind that I am trading it in for something more reliable (and less rusty) and this is its final FU. Any help is greatly appreciated.
