I installed 4 Rancho 9000s but the steering stabilizer is fighting me. I have a 95 Dodge 2500 4x4. I got the back nut off ok but am having trouble getting the stock stabilizer out. I know I am not the first down this path so: Is that threaded in and I need to unscrew it or can I pound it out of there? I tried a bit of both but stopped to see if anyone out here has an idea...

Thanks!

R Adams,

It's not a threaded bolt--it is pressed in there. Pounding it out may/may not work. After several attempts, I used an impact and pickle fork. I'm sure a pickle and a hammer will also work. When it is ready to go it will just pop right off. Good luck, hope this helps... .

Pitman are puller worked fine for me and a little penetrating oil. Popped right out. I can't believe there is an easier way to do it than with a pitman arm puller.

i'm about to put the Rancho 5000 steering stabilizer on my Y2K. should i have the same problem or have they redesigned the bolt.

I used a pitman arm puller. I've read a couple of wacks with a hammer on the eye end of the stabilizer will pop it right off once the bolt is off. Ratsa ruck :D

I have a '96 and it does not have a steering stabilizer. It is not a 4 wheel drive, is that the reason, or am I missing a part?

2k - rs5000 Rancho says they dont make

I have tried several times to get a Rancho 5k for my 2k but they say they don't have one for the 2k & 2k1. what is the word ????

Removing Stabilizer Stud.

What I did was quick & easy, and only a little greasy. I removed the *easy* end first, and let the stabilizer dangle. Then I removed the cotter pin, and backed off the castle nut until it made a nice cradle for a two jaw puller rod. Using the two jaw puller, I put some pretty hefty tension on the stud. Then I whacked the stub end neatly with a 12 ounce ball pein hammer, and it loosened with a pop. Took about five minutes. Unfortunately, figuring out what to do took half an hour before the fve minutes.

I broke the stabilizer loose with a pickle fork, no problem. The 5000 came with a tapered bolt that was too short! After much wrestling with 4 Wheel Parts on the issue, I eventually just put the stock stabilizer back on and returned the stabilizer. Anybody else had this problem with their 2001 and the 5000?

jphuffs, the stabilizer is a 4x4 only item

Matt Shumaker's method is probably the best. I've never had any trouble popping stabilizers off on anything that I've worked on. Depending on the set-up, sometimes I use a pickle-fork and sometimes I just back off the castle nut and smack the stud hard with a short handled 5lb sledge. The castle nut keep the stuff from flying and bouncing back to hit me :)

I think its "RS" 5404 ( i know the number is right but unsure on the letters) It works, theres one on my truck.

Just an FYI for those who are contemplating a new Steering Stabilizer, the Pitman Puller combined with a few shots of WD-40 works wonders. Better still for those of us who don't happen to have a puller, Auto Zone will lend you one for free just by leaving a totally refundable deposit until you return the tool. In the past, I've not had much use for AutoZone, but this deal has me leaning more in their direction as of late. ;) Sure beats the heck out of buying a $20-40 tool only to use it once, maybe twice in a lifetime.

I posted on this about a month back, do a search it is funny, Charlie Brown luck as Doc calls it.

Mine had a burr on it, and was IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!

A combination of all the above, plus a grinder, and lots swearing got it off.
