Well my new truck should be here next week. Oo. So last night I began removing my accessories I am going to put on the new CTD. One of which was the Rancho 9000 shocks. After removing them I noticed that if I pushed the piston down (compressed it) it did not come back out it just stays in what ever position I put it in. The stock shocks expand when they are compressed. I am pretty sure the Ranchos did this when I first installed them, only about 15K ago. The truck is a daily driver so no heavy loads or long hauling, just occasionaly. So are these shocks "wore out" already? anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

J

I could be completely wrong here but I think the stock shocks are probably gas charged and that would explain why they return to the extended posistion. I seem to recall that my Rancho 9000 I had on my Y2k DID NOT return to the fully extended posistion on thier own. Is it really hard to move the shaft in or out? I would expect it to be very easy to do if the shock was blown.

The shocks job is to dampen compression and rebound and although some shocks do return to thier extended position (such as gas charged shock absorbers), it isn't indicative of proper shock operation. As long as there is strong resistance to compressing OR extending the shock, it is functioning as designed.

And yes, my Rancho RS9000X's were the same when new (stayed in the position you left it in. )

Cheers,

Dave
