Has anyone purchased the Rancho 9000 remote system to adjust the shocks from the cab? Is this worth the convienence? I'll be hauling a '11 Lance camper sometimes off road and could adjust the shocks as road conditions change. Also were their any problems with installation? thanks Doug

I put them on my '94 3500. It's worth it because I mostly need to adjust in the winter (keeps me clean and dry) and with the knob adjusters, the pin inside the shock will sieze up. Two of mine were stuck at about 1 year when I went to install the remote kit. Rancho warranteed them but the warrantee is only 2 years. Installing the kit isn't hard but it is time consuming. Fortunatly, you can do it over several days and still drive the truck. My tips: use a tubing cutter to cut the air lines, less chance of leakage; cover the airlines with split wire loom cover, it reduces the chance that they will chafe through; use lots of wire ties, see above reason; use a gromet in the firewall, same reason; leave the ends a little long in case you ever have problems with the ends. I mounted my compressor where the ABS module would go if I had it. I works great to tune the ride on different roads, definitley worth the effort. I just wish Rancho had a lifetime warrantee on the shocks.

Is there a good location to put the gauges so they are out of the way? I am planning to have the Rancho dealer do the install and want to tell them where to place the gauges.

Thanks

I put mine under the dash waaayyy down at the bottom to the right of the colum and to left of the CB. It's a little reach to adjust but I'm glad I did it as the lights are a little bright. The needles are hard to see at night too, cheap guages.

Hi, although I have the Rancho RS9000 shocks also. I don't think you'll be able to use them to 'relevel' your truck with a 3000+ pound camper (I have the Lance ll30 and loaded it weighs in at just a little over 3400 pounds).

I have Air-Lift air bags with inside controls and onboard compressor and find that it takes 70 pounds of pressure to 'relevel' the truck. These bags are rated at 5000 pounds, I haven't seen any reference to ratings on air-pressure on the Rancho shocks but doubt you'll be able to relevel your truck with them.

On a side note... If you have the camper package with sway bar, the drivers side lower shock bolt can't be removed without lowering the sway bar (four bolt mounting on the underside of the axle, there is very little pressure on this so you can do it without a jack). When you reinstall the shock bolt simply put the nut on the side with the sway bar side.

The front shock are mounted to the top of the axles on the 4X4 so, you'll have to remove the shock tower bracket on the top to remove the shocks... not a problem, nothing to be scared of... note: the front shocks are gas filled whereas the rear shocks are not?

I have the Rancho's set at the #4 position and the ride unloaded is softer than stock. Haven't tried it with the camper yet but suspect I won't have to change the setting.

When mounting the Ranchos, the drivers side rear has to have the dial facing toward the back of the truck, the passenger side rear toward the front of the truck, the front shocks should have both dials facing toward the back of the truck to shield them from "road junk".

I dunno, just my experience.

dougchulte,
They are nice but not necessary... .....
Kind of a pain to install but once its done and over you will love them. I put mine the same place as Extreme1... ... . They are not something you monitor all the time so find a spot that works but is not "up front" so to speak... ... ...
Messing with these things can be very rewarding, especially if you haul stuff and do a bit of rough roading... . Slow washboard roads with mama can be gentle... ... ... . Fast rough roading without mama can be handled without bottoming out, just push a button or two!
One more toy to tinker with... .....
Good Luck,
Ron
