Here is what happened.
I was helping to unbolt and pull the transmission in the process of installing an aftermarket torque converter/flex plate and some other parts. I unplugged the range position sensor (or other name depending on who's parts list you view). When I unplugged it, I found the plug was full of ATF... . so I sort of suspected that was not the way things should be.
A few days later, when I had the truck in the dyno shop, the back-up lights came on when we shifted into Park. The dyno shop guys diagnosed the problem to this sensor; however their price sheet gave a price of $300+. I am guessing their price sheet was "off" by a decimal point.
Anyhow, the issue with the back-up lights has not repeated, but I was told that eventually if enough ATF contaminates the electrical connects that it could cause a "no start" situation. This would not be a good thing to happen in the middle of Nevada.
