I ran across a 98 12 Valve quad cab Laramie 4x4 shortbed auto the other day. 179K highway miles, transmission rebuilt at 169K, truck is in excellent shape (no dents or dings anywhere), grill guard, nerf bars, toolbox, bed caps, bed rails, the bottom of the leather seats were recovered last week, 250 miles on 4 new firestone a/t tires. Any idea on what would something like this be worth?? Thanks for the help.

I paid around $17,000 and that was two years ago for mine. I'd say anywhere from 13 to 16 anyway. Check it out good. I dumped a grand into my front end after I bought it just so I could keep it in my lane.

Yeah the dealer spent $1200 replacing 2 big bars on the front end. I can't remeber what he called them, but it still pulls a little to the left and has some slop in the steering. Any idea to what would cause this?? Is this 12valve 98 worth more than a 24 valve 98??

I'd stick with the 12, but I don't think it's necessarily worth more than the 24. Some just like the option of having the 12 valve witht he quad doors and newer style interior. The slop can be several things. I replaced my trac bar, all bushings, bearings and finally had to replace the steering box. I put a DSS on it too. It drives really good now.

If the truck is as nice as you say and it's around 12 to 15, go for it.

Is the trac bar 2 different bars?? I think thats what he replaced but there are 2 new black bars under the front end. I already bought the truck for 12500

No, the trac bar is one bar that runs from the drivers side frame rail across to the axle housing. I'm wondering if they are talking your tie rods etc? Not sure, just ask them and they should show you.

it was bought 120 miles from here. I guess I could call him tomorrow and ask. If you are looking up underneath the front of the truck one of the "new" bars attaches to the passenger side spindle. The other is the same size and is right behind it ..... I think it is even attached to it.

5 speed 98-12's are rare, but 6 speeds are more rare. . I swear I have the only one in Texas, but then again, no one has confirmed having one. I love the heck out of that motor, and I just rolled over 201k 2 days ago! still going strong!

So Chris -

You got the head back on? Why'd you take it off in the first place?

Twelve Valves Rule - Wouldn't sell mine for the price of a new '04 :-laf
