Mechanic put the belt on to tight and its leaking at the shaft. I have a replacement pump BUT question is how much diesel will be all over the garage floor when I remove it. This has the Poole hard blue line kit on it and I do not think I can can pinch them off tight enough. Should I drain the filter to keep the mess down? Will I have to bleed the air at the injectors? I was going to change it earlier in the fall but I loosened the belt and it quit leaking . Now its COLD and its leaking again. Any and all help and good advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks TT

You can pinch the -6 push-lok hose, just make sure you use pinch pliers and not vise-grips. I would just take the line off the filter to make it easier. And you will more than likely have to bleed it, I did on the initial installation. You want about 3/4" deflection on the belt.

When I replaced mine for the same reason I pinched them off about 1 to 1 1/2 feet up from the pump. I wrapped the hoses with some electrical tape (just what I had handy) and used some vice grips but they were the flat nose type(by the way I did not crank them down just moderate pressure). I really only had a few drips plus what was in the pump so well less than 1/2 a cup. I did not have to bleed the injectors. It started right up coughed once or twice but that was it. Also you will probably want to get some diesel rated pipe dope for the two fittings that go into the pump I picked some up at NAPA for a couple bucks. Job took less than 30 minutes.

Hey Terry did you get it fixxed??? There is a AK Bombers meeting on Dec 10, check the meetings forum down below.

Yes I got it repaired last night. Bought a couple of Irwin vise grip type hose clamps. Very little mess and fired right up when done. The 10th sounds good. Will give you a ring today.
