Basic Q's time - what does an Edge do?

What's your opinion. I have heard that there are some FASS systems having failures, but people aren't talking about them because he's replacing them for free as of now (warranty).

The RASP is about $250 more after lines and fittings, but the mechanical aspect really makes me like it more. An electric pump will always be electric and can always fail. The mechanical pump, while it can fail, is much more likely to last longer, IMHO, BUT, is it worth the money?

Also, the RASP leaves the stock system in place as a backup/primer, and it can be controlled from inside the cab (switched).

I guess I'm trying to justify the RASP to myself... what do you guys think?

Nothing is ever perfect, but a mechanical pump has a much better chance of working for the long term than an electric one does. Plus if you have the stock system as a back-up, that's awesome.

I think that would be a better way to go.

Get the RASP, that's what I'm doing, that back-up with the stock system is great!!!

but why? That's what I'm trying to determine, is WHY it's a better way to go. The extra money could be spent somewhere else very easily (like getting rid of this friggin' scotty II, blow your ear drums after 14 hours, hate every minute of listening to my B1 scream, want to place dynamite in it and lite the fuse, would rather stick a hot poker in my eye then listen to it anymore, for an AFE system). :D

RELIABILITY, that's good enough for me, something about changing the lift pump on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere that doesn't appeal to me. And the other big reason is the RASP volume changes with engine RPM's, just like it should have been in the first place. Can't wait to get mine!!!

Do you think there is any worthwhile advantage to the additional air/water removal of the FASS/AirDog that might make those systems more viable?

I'm new to all the fass stuff. What's RASP. A mechaical pump for the fass system? That would give me 2 mechanical pumps. Why?

LOL, my scotty 2 only lasted about 20 minutes on my truck with the B1. I guess i should sell the stupid thing. Been sitting on the shelf for quite a while now. You will like the AFE, much less noise inside, but the dang B1 still is a screamer. I love the tone, but sometimes i wish it had a mute button

Like Supermod56 said above. Reliability is the reason you may want to spend the extra money. I know little about the RASP's design. But it's a mechanical system which should definitely be more reliable then an electric motor. Plus, if it fails, you should still have your stock system to get the truck around, home or wherever you need to go.

If you lose a fass, you are in for a lot of work just to get the truck home again. They don't have any back up system.

Check my sig. I'm running a FASS. I like mechanical stuff better then electric. I've yet to have anything that's electric and part of my fuel system be 100% reliable (VP included). Never had a problem with my old 96 and it's mechanical lift pump or it's mechanical injection pump.

I am going to read up on this RASP. It has my interest.

RASP eh!

I've got a friend on his second FASS in the last six to eight months or so. He has now been sent replacement parts for the second unit that is now acting up.

It's not regulating pressure very well. I was thinking he was the exception. . Is there more of this going on?

FASS seems to be responsive to the issues but It has been rather frustrating for my friend.

I've been conciedering a FASS or Airdog myself but this RASP is looking interesting. I love taking a bath in diesel... one more fuel system mod won't kill me. :D

Well, here's how I'm doing the system install on mine, thanks to help from Paul. Using a few different parts than listed on DTT's site, and setting it up slightly differently. Will take detailed install pics for people so that there is something somewhere about it.

gotta get friend w/ digital camera to let me use it some more... he thinks I like to break things and doesn't let me out of site when I have it. Will probably be next week as I am going to Reno this weekend for the air races.
