Rattling shift linkage fix ?

My 01' 4x4 has an annoying rattle down under the truck which appears to be in the column shift linkage. If I pull back on the shift handle it goes away. I assume something is worn from banging around on WY dirt roads for 100K miles and 17 years. What needs to be done to fix it ?
