I have a 2002 dodge 2500 with 230,000 miles. I have a problem with what appears to be surging when the air temp is above 40. With a steady peddle, or on cruise, it feels like the engine is getting a signal to vary the amount of fuel almost as if you are driving in a heavy buffeting wind. I have changed the fuel transfer pump, VP44, and have experienced not much change. In the last four months i have replaced the transmission with a Chrysler reman. In the last eight months i have changed the AC compressor and starter. I had both batteries die and after a charge and hooking the batteries up the last connection there was a heavy spark - after this event things started to act up.

The dealership is starting to scratch their heads as to what else could be the problem, electrical, mechanical, or fuel. My check book is starting to limit my options. Any ideas?

sounds like a good short somewhere . I would disconnect the batts. as you will grenade them. The electrical needs to be fixed first pull all the fuses Get an amp meter to put between the batt and cable only hook up the one battery have someone monitor the current draw as you start reinstalling the fuses. If you have high current draw with all the fuses pulled then you have something up in the engine compartment. I am thinking you could be dropping the voltagetoo low for the ECM to work properly. My two cents
