Had a call from my dealership today asking me to pick up my truck. It was stolen two weeks ago. They repaired the damaged doors and did a good job. Also installed the new ignition that had been damaged,no problem so far. Took a closer look around the truck and guess what? some idiot has washed the truck and they must have rubbed in a load of mud and grit because now I have scratch marks in my clear coat. What can I do? I would like to get my truck as far away from them as soon as possible. Will I be able to polish out the scratches my self. ? Any advise would really be appreciated.

Thank you Brian I.

Yes, you can buff them out depending on how bad they are but be careful, you can end up doing more harm than good with the buffing compound and buffer. Clear coats are touchy. Make the dealership do the job right. Just make sure that they can't say the the scratches are normal wear and tear from your previous washings.

Welcome to my world... ... took the truck in the week after I bought it and some moron lot boy washed it AND buffed it with a dirty buffing wheel. Ruined the clear coat. Dealer said he'd make it right, and had yet another idiot do the same thing. I finally went to a business that does nothing but detail work---the guy swore up and down he'd use a "foam pad" and remove the swirls out of the clear coat, then use a good wax on it. Sighhhhhh truck looked awesome, until I washed it

He didn't do squat except wax it with something that hid the swirls, and the first wash I was back where I started.

My advice: DO NOT do this yourself. Find someone that is a REPUTABLE detailer or body shop, make sure they tell you EXACTLY how they will remove the swirls... ..... and insist you want to look at the truck PRIOR to them putting any foo foo crap on it. This should run you around $200-$400 for the whole thing... ... ...

I finally just gave up, and have to sit and look at this every day (its a black truck). May be someday when finances are better I'll revisit the issue myself... ... .....

Good luck
