I was a bit concerned with my egts going down real slow, and I was talking to a guy today about it and he said that some guages have different "reaction times". He seemed to think that Autometer was a slower reacting guage. So I said when I am parked at and im at 400 i could really be at 350, or 300? He said yes it could be a slower reaction time?? Anyone know anything about this?

Outside temp also plays a part. I have found that waiting 2 to 3 times as long for cool down in the summer is not unusual compared to winter cool down.

For example, during the winter, driving the last mile home at around 30 mph gives plenty of time for the EGT (post-turbo) to reach 300 degrees. But during the summer, I coast (at idle) near home and still need to wait around 2 or 3 minutes for the 300 degree mark. This is with VDO gauges.

Dont forget Autometer makes 2 different Thermocouples. The Competition series and the street series. The competition series has no shield and therefore responds faster, while the other version does not. The difference is not very big, i have been in vehicles with both probes, but it is still a difference.
