Alright People, I need some help!! About two months ago I installed a Carter Pusher Pump from Piers. It worked great for about three days, THEN somedays it will fire right up other days the engine sounds like it is starving for fuel-I would have to crank it 10-15 times for it to start. So, I figured that pump was bad. Got another one! Hooked it up, all fittings are tight not leaks-not sucking air. About three day later, it starting up again. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?? Obviously the pumps are ok. I even had someone else over look the install incase I was missing something that I did wrong. The fuel pressures are fine-20psi @ idle. Piers has no clue on what to tell me , except it must be sucking air. All fittings are tight-No lines are kinked.

WHy would it start up fine @ 2:00 then at 3:30 I am just cranking away. Also it can't be the starter because I ran the truck almost 2 weeks inbetween both pumps and it ran perfect. ???

Please-I NEED HELP QUICK>

THANKS

Wish I could help, but I've had no problem with my Carter "helper" pump that has been installed almost 2 weeks. BTW: 21lbs at idle and 15+ at WOT.

Also had a filter installed before the helper.

Pump

If you have the added pump running as soon as the key is on that is probably the problem, the fuel pressure for starting is supposed to be 7 pounds, the pump runs on a 25% cycle until the engine starts, try cutting the extra pump off until the engine starts then you can run it without problem I believe. bg

DF, I'm running a mallory only back by the tank, if you try to start the truck while the pump is running, it does take forever for it to start. What I have done is tapped into the original power wire from the ECM and wired it to a relay. It cycles the pump like stock then kills it till you start the truck. It starts right up after the pump cycles.

Morph.

I remember Steve St Laurant....(hope I spelled his name right)

having this same problem 2 years ago. He just waits until the engine fires to turn on the pusher, so as not to "flood" the engine during cranking.

Ihave been running the Carter pusher pump for almost 6 mos. now with no problems. My fuel pump failed to prime the filter after a change like so many others. I went and bought a pusher and ordered gauges the same day. It was a wake up call. I tapped into the hot line to the factory lift pump.

I went abought a new lift pump, but now my orig. just wont completely die. I am still running 18 psi at idle 10-12 wot. When it does act up on occasion, the press. drops to about 7 psi. That tells me that the low press. high vol. pusher is saving my butt.

As long as the Carter is wired with a relay then she is fine. I have seen two trucks so far with an issue like this where the fuel draincock is slightly open allowing air to enter the fuel filter housing Check that out too.

Maybe it's not even a pump problem at all. I never installed a pusher or anything, but my truck would start at 2:00 and carnck and crank and crank at 3:30. It ended up being my ECM, problem was, there were no error codes because everytime the ECM would short out and not let me start, it would also clear all the codes. Like I said, it happened to me, maybe you are having the same problem. Or I could be totally off my rocker:rolleyes:
