Okay Guys, why is it hard to read the oil dip stick accurately on my '05 and not on my '96 & '98. They are essentially the same but it seems that the tube on the '05 wipes the stick off at the curve and smears the oil along the stick and there goes the accuracy. Any thoughts? do any of you have the same problem?
Along those lines, why is the '05 using oil but does not show any leaks or smoke. Where might I look? Has 196K on the clock. New injectors 25K back. Runs good otherwise.
Thanks for any input.

No issues on my 05, easy to read all the time. You might have a sludge buildup in the bottom of the tube causing the issue. Run a quart of MMO in the oil the last 1000 miles before change to clean the oil pan and lower block area up, see if that helps.

Are you actually using oil or is the inability to read the dip stick making it seem that way? How much in how much time? An oil leak at the turbo will never show somke, and oil trail, or any indication of a problem. It is also a bugger to diagnose a small leak in the turbo.

I like to check my oil in the morning before I start it, it's easy to read because all oil has drained into the pan.

I usually ck it after it has sat for a while. I drove it on a 180 mile trip and as I was driving into the driveway the "ck engine" light came on. I thought that was odd. Let it sit over night and ck'd it in the morning and it was below the add mark. It will use a little between oil changes, but not 2 qt. I did not ck it before leaving. It is not usually a problem and I am only half way through the oil change. I did ck the tail pipe to see if it was pushing oil through and it was dry.
