I have seen a number of posts about reading the error codes from their trucks.

Are people using OBD interfaces to do this or is there a "secret" key sequence to get it to flash codes? I know on my new Jeep EFI I can turn the key on, off, on, off and then on again and the Check Engine light will spill the computers guts. Is there something similar for the Cummins? Also if so where can I get information on how to do this and what the codes are?

Finaly if I was so inclined to get an OBD would it work with the Cummins?

My truck is a 1999 2500.

Thanks,

Ira

Well sort of answered my own question with a search of the forum.

But I still did not find what the codes mean? In the Shop manual maybe? I will have to do some research tonight...

Thanks,

Ira

I don't think you can get the codes with the on-off-on-off... method on the 99's. At least I can't with my 99.

Hope I haven't misled anyone... .

But, the two codes I'm dealing with P1693 and especially P0216 (Injection Pump Timing Failure) have been confirmed as the same from another code source.

I set off a code today P1693. I had the truck running and I unplugged my box and I lost power big time then the check light came on then I plugged the Comp back in and everything is fine. Yes it was stupid dont do that! My question is can I clear the code on my own? Maybe if I unhook the batteries?
