I'm tires of yelling when pulling hills with the 5'ver. I had a Daimond Eye muffler for a while but I thought it sounded like crap and have been running the straight pipe since. I also tried the BIG-OLE' Donaldson for a while.

Do you guys think that if I put the cat back in the stock location it would quiet er down? I still want the roar, . . just not as loud!

I have an '03 and I went from a straight pipe to a Walker muffler from Napa. it is Napa 21467 and is 20" long and has a 3. 5" inlet/outlet. They have quit a few mufflers and resonators that might work for you. I was looking for one that would fit in my factory exhaust with no welding. This one replaced a piece of the factory exhaust perfectly. Still sounds good but it killed the drone.

Good luck finding one. Life is much better without the drone.

Nope, it will still drone under a load with just the CAT. You need a muffler of some kind to cut the drone.

So I take it that the straight pipe is pretty obnoxious?

I need to replace my 51" donaldson, something on the inside is rattling and it's annoying.

I need to replace it but I want something different.

I was thinking about getting the 51. What can you tell me about it? Is it quiet? Too quiet? THNX

It is quiet, no drone what so ever.

Too quiet? Well that depends on who you are. I would like a bit more noise, but not much.

I think it's a great muffler, but like I said it has a rattle so I think I'll try something different.

The Cat you took off offers very minimal restriction should you put it back on. My 06 has a Cat, had a very restrictive muffler, and has a resonator toward the back end. With the muffler off (Geno's muffler elimination kit) I like the sound (no drone).

Good Luck

What about exhaust temps with the Donaldson? That's the only reason I ditched my stock muffler, and the rest of the exhaust.

Jeff, where did you put the muffler? Did you keep the MEK and put the muffler in front of the stock location? I have an 03 as well that is straight piped and would like to have anoption for a muffler.

I don't know about the EGT's with the donaldson. It's really hard to tell if they drop at all

So MMerlino. Are you running just the Cat now? I thought of just putting that back on.

I think this is the second or third time i herd of the 51 rattling and making noise. Am i correct? Really like to know because i want to get one very soon. Or something quiet.

Finally got time and put the cat back in. Good long test test ride didn't show any increase of EGT's.

Exhaust note is still loud and has more THROAT in it. It is definately quieter than straight pipe only, though.

don't know if you wish to preserve your muff or if your situation will be like mine...

my donaldson did this and all i had to do was cut out the screen on the inlet side that had partially broken loose. no more rattling and loved the sound.

it was a filthy job though.

I have the 03' with the Aeroturbine and I really like the sound of it, pretty quiet in the cab with just a little drone, sounds great outside and I can still talk over it when I'm pulling my trailer.

Defiant products.

Paul Fox @ Defiant sells Shuttleworth HD Diesel mufflers. He spliced one into my '07. No drone, flows much better than stock and best of all: you can hear the stereo and carry on a conversation with your passenger at normal levels. :)
