I had taken my truck in to the dealer a few days ago and got a call back today while I was sleeping. I knew some of this and cant understand other parts. I know my front axle was bent/ broken, I figured the wires to my fan clutch were cut by the fan, I did not know it also needed a new radiator. My question is should I go the insurance route like the dealer mentioned or should I get some of the parts and do it myself. The total was said to be $6600. I could get a slightly used front axle for 21-2500 and a fan clutch for well however much that cost. I see no need for a radiator. I can do all the work myself. I dont have the money to pay for the repair out of pocket but could find the money for the parts to do it myself. My truck is a '07. 5 2500 4x4 G56.

What should I do, how much would my insurance go up if at all.

Trouble with letting the insurance handle it:

1. Your rates will go up for at least 3 to 5 years.

2. The accident will be an "at fault" on your insurance record stored by the information miners. It's called a C. L. U. E. report if I remember correctly.

You're better off fixing it yourself if you can. :(

My brain got the best of me:)

CLUE Reports

The C. L. U. E. ® Personal Property report provides a seven year history of losses associated with an individual and his/her personal property.

The details of what happened aren't clear to me, but, I would check with your insurance company to see what their policy is re: increasing your rates.

Rate increases usually occur when your company pays $$ to the other party for the damage you caused through your negligence (back into their car in the Wal-mart lot, you blow a stop sign, etc. ) Those $$ are paid out from the Liability coverage in your policy.

Most co's will give you a hit if it is an at fault and pay out. A single car accident will be your fault... ... ... ... . even hitting a pot hole and eating a wheel will be your fault #@$%!

Damn, well the dealer said 6200 for everything (axle, radiator, fan clutch) so I cant afford it out of pocket. I guess I will just have to take the hike and deal with it. But I dont understand the radiator needing replaced. never leaked smelled or anything. I will call the dealer and insurance in the morning to see what they say. Oh and Bob, the axle had 3k on it so it is pretty new. I just wish it could take a dana 60 passenger side drop with leaf springs cus I have a few of those. I heard these AAM axles are much weaker than the dana's. Guess I will get the new one trussed.

I saw that last week and love it. I would love to have that. Any idea on the cost to have it trussed like that.
