Hey guys I was on the way home last night and driving the instant MPG gauge was only reading 16-18 at 70mph not very hilly either this just seems kind of low when I fill up the most I can get on my dte is 450 doesnt that seem low, I ordered the scotty 2 system any ideas would help thanks alot!!!!!

What you need to do is turn those rockfordfosgates so they face the back... that will increase the mileage 1-2 MPG at least!!!!;) :-laf

What is your actual MPG, calculated by hand? The trip computer is not always accurate. How many gallons are you putting in when the guage shows empty? The airfilter setup is not going to help the MPG at all.

Turning the alternator with that 1,400 watt amp on is like towing a 30 ft. trailer. Turn those suckers off! Especially when you pass my house! LOL

PS:

I get 17 mpg empty and 12. 5 towing or hauling. By Happy!Oo.

mpg

does it really take alot of power to spin the alternator or are you kidding? My mileage dropped drastically and its been down for awhile. I assumed i was a lucky one and my van aiken killed my mileage. well i removed the va and the mileage still sucks. i now have a pe comp and the mileage is even worse. when i got the truck it got 17 in the city now i get 12 with mixed driving. any suggestions would be appreciated. maybe unrelated but my egts at idle are 300* is this normal?

Big_Daddy_T, 300F at idle is where mine runs after the engine is warm, if I just fired it up it is around 200-225.

Also Crafty, have you guys ever run a good injector cleaner through? I've heard some comments about fuel being pretty bad this winter and causing a lot of deposits. Some guys that have put in injectors recently have noticed a lot of carbon buildup. If you don't already I would use Stanadyne or at minimum Power Service additive at every fillup. If you already use something then maybe a strong specific-purpose injector cleaner may be the ticket.

Some suggestions (I have not personally tried these but some I found on the 'web that look promising)

cummins injector cleaner

I tried some cummins injector cleaner after reading an article in tdr, it seemed to work real good.

Do you have gauges to go w/the VA box???

what's your FP? check the filter and lift pump. Also check boost hoses a small leak will cause high EGTs and bad mileage.

If you haven't already a 108* thermostat helps a lot... . 5-1mpg for most.

FWIW,

Mark

I'm no expert by any means, but have you checked the clamps on your intake plumbing? Sometimes they get loose and leak air pressure which will hurt mpg. Maybe it's time to have it pressure tested for leaks?

Just a thought.
