Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Rear Axle Info. Needed.

We're working on a buddy's 98' 2500 Long bed. His rear D70 has some major issues. We were just wondering if a D70 out of a 96' 2500 would be a direct "bolt in" swap? What year 2500's rear axles would be a direct "bolt in" swap? Need info. asap.

No I don't think it would be, but not 100% on that but I'm like 90% though. 98-up have the speedo sensor in the rear end, whereas the 97-older use a sensor at the transmission. I don't think they are compatable, or atleast I would not chance it. Only 98-00 would be direct bolt in since they went to rear disk brakes in 01'.

My 96 has the speedo sensor in the rear, but its a dana 80 so even if it does or doesnt you can still press the sensor ring on with the ring if the carrier is notched for it.

Thats the big ''IF'', and the reason I didn't say I was 100% on it. Perhaps someone else know for sure.

I put a Dana 80 out of a 94 dually under my truck. Put the newer style ABS sensor in the pumpkin and the speedo & ABS works fine.

The diff's should be identical with the exception of the speed sensor in it.

You can use the diff with sensor in place of one without the sensor without any worries (just don't hook up the sensor).



The other way around can be a problem, though.



If you need the sensor, just use your original one.



Gear ratio can also be an issue.
