I just replaced the rear axle seal and am upgrading the stock hub bearing adjustment nut to the Quad 4x4 Nuts. The instructions with the Quad 4x4 kit says to tighten the adjutment nut to 50 ft. lbs initially, then back off 1/3 of a turn. The Dodge service manual says 120-140 ft. lbs. then back off 1/8 turn. Is the difference because of the locking type nut that Dodge uses creates more friction / higher torque readings? Should I go with the #'s from Quad 4x4 or go with the Dodge #'s? What did you guys do when you changed yours?

If in doubt, I would rather be loose than tight. Loose might encourage the seal to leak. Tight can cause a bearing and axle failure!

What are the advantages of these nuts?

Thanks,

The stock nut retention method is definetly low budget, it uses little metal clips driven into the nylon on the nut and a keyslot on the housing to keep the nuts from unscrewing. Cheap junk! Take a look at Quad's website, I think they compare them.
