So there I was after 3 hours waiting on the service department to "confirm warranty" on the axle seal, they can't connect to Chrysler's satellite system to confirm or deny coverage. So the service writer asks me if I want to know how much it would cost to pay for it out of my own pocket. I say okay since I really have no idea. Mind you, there's a $100 deductible on the 7/70 powertrain warranty. He checks, does some math and gives me a price of $165 for the repair. I'm a little peaved so I just say no and get my truck back and leave. I don't blame them for anything other than NOT telling me they were having issues with confirming the warranty.

Now that the venting is over, can someone please tell me where I can get the parts and how easy or difficult the repair would be if I do it myself? Where do I start? Thanks. I have quite a few tools and am mechanically inclined and confident that I can do it right.

P. S. This was at Carson Dodge, Carson City NV. John Holmes is retiring (re-retiring) and moving to their new property in Texas.

Should be fairly simple...

Got to pull the wheel...
pull the axle shaft...
Probably need to remove the caliper and caliper bracket...
Remove the locking tab, and the axle nut...
the hub should literally fall off (catch that outer bearing from falling in the dirt)...
flip it over and yank the old seal out...
tap the new seal home...
check the spindle surface for any bur that might have caused the leak...

Reinstall in reverse order...

You can download the manual from "The Premiere website for Hemi Ram and Hemi SUVs. "

Thanks Steve. I completely forgot that I had the manual already downloaded. Doesn't sound too bad. I think I'm going to do both sides at the same time just to be safe. What would you do?

To be quite honest, unless you have a bunch of miles on the truck (i. e. the seals are literally worn out, not damaged), I'd only do the side that's leaking.

However, if you got the place and time, what's another $10 and peace of mind?

OH, the caliper bracket bolts will probably be the worst part. . they are lock-tited in place... I used a touch of heat from a propane torch (propane, not an acetylene) to make it easier...
