rear axle slip joint greasing

there is no zerk on the yoke of the rear axle slip joint, the joint is covered by a dust-boot that is held on with non-reusable clamps. Do I have to drop the driveshaft to grease this joint? or am I missing something obvious?

I looked in the 93 manual and could find nothing about lubrication on the slip joint. You have a good question there... I wonder if all you do is wipe some grease on it when you re-assemble it and call that good... ???

Any other ideas guys???

When I had my driveshaft out for U joint replacement we had the zirk installed in the slip joint. Made a point of replacing all u joints with the Spicer greasable type. PK

Drive Shaft Slip Joint

The slip joint splines are teflon coated and should not need to be re-lubricated. When I replaced my oem u-joints last winter I used the type with the zerk fitting. Only one bearing cap had failed it was completly dry . The teflon coating on my spline was like new at 150k, so it should easily last the life of the truck. I use Quaker State "Golden Chassis Lube" to lube my joints and front end with good results.

well that makes sense as to why their is no way to grease it. My ujoints have been replaced with greasable ones previously thanks

About that Teflon, don't ever let some idiot low life parts guy try to convince you to carve it off, so he can try to press the incorrectly listed support bearing on to it. Sometimes I wonder about parts counter guys, they insist that it is the right part, just because the computer claims it is.



PS not ALL parts guys are that incompetent, just some.
