Just got the truck out of the shop. What a difference. The noise is completely gone. Even the noise at low speeds that I had attributed to the transmission (because the noise changed depending on the gear) is gone. The noise must telegraph right up the drive line. The tech said he had never seen one like this. Figured it was a soft pinion. If this fixes it permanently, I will be a happy camper. FWIW.

Good... What did they do to stop I'm assuming the whine ? My truck has 30000 mi and is really gettin' bad at 65 mph when ring and pinnion is in float condition or going down a slight incline or with a strong tail wind on level ground... ..... JIM

They replaced the ring and pinion. Mine whined loudest at 65 on slight acceleration.

No, the dealer recommended 75W140 with friction modifier for the break-in. I provided them with the Redline oil. I didn't want them putting in the Mopar product. Apparently it is not full synthetic.

Casey, congrats. As stated before, my whine started at 300 miles on truck. Just pulled the work order and the work order stated work was performed with 1286 miles on truck. I've got 3150 and so far no problems. Just received a noncontact thermometer and will start checking temps. I also went with a Mag-Hytec cover and Valvoline 75W140 full synthetic. Still getting some "fuzz" on the magnetic dipstick. Going to run some more miles and then change the fluid. I know that the 140 is not recommended but after reading a lubication article I went this way. If someone is interesting in the article, I'll send you the article and maybe you can post a link here. (I'm not the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to computers).

My understanding is that the Mopar 75W90 is a full synthetic and their 75W140 product is not. That could be the reason that the 75W140 is not specified by D/C.
