During a drive back across Canada, I noticed what looked like a vent tube dragging in the snow behind the truck.

It comes out on the driver side of the rear axle (halfway from the pumpkin) and terminates with some sort of a plug.

I stuck it back up against the frame, but where does it really belong? And am I correct in my assumption that it's the axle vent tube, or???

Thanks y'all,

Jacek

Yep. That's what it is. Just looked at mine and it is routed slightly forward and turns back over the cross bar that the shocks mount onto. It points to the rear and has a clip to hold it to the frame flange. You might also use a nylon tie wrap at the cross bar to help secure it.

Made the run to Alaska last April. Wish I had an excuse to do it again. You have a few bumps in the road. Probably just shook lose.

James,

Thanks for the heads up.

I'll tie wrap it tonight - doesn't look like any damage was done.

Right now is a nice time of the year to do the drive - empty roads, the days are long, but it can be slick and cold (-25f in Tok).

I hate to split hairs...

But the plug you referred to is the end cap- it is set up to let pressure vent off, yet prevent the majority of dirt form getting in. Hard to explain in print, without drawing a cross section picture.

Daniel,

It appears that the end cap is intact. It looks like a little metal plug at the end of the hose, sort of like a pressure relief valve.
