I am just about to move 3000 miles and just got off the scales, 21640 total. my concern is the rear axle, I am at 7200lbs, what I can find is a rating of about 6200. I have a 3500 SRW 2009 Mega Cab. I could move some stuff around on the trailer if needed. What have you guys seen/ done?

Thanks Wygate

I don't know what the axle rating officially is, but I've had mine at over 9,000 lbs for short distances.

I've leaving on a 12,000 mile trip to Alaska in July, and the rear axle weight will likely be around 7,500 lbs. I'm running Carli LT air bags, as well as 4" Carli Bistein hydraulic bumpstops to distribute the weight across the axle some.

What is the weight rating of your tires? I'm pretty sure the stock factory tire's weight rating on an SRW is around 3200?

We have an 04 and a 05 that we've towed a 20K lb trailer... the 04 has close to 300K miles on it, with most of that time spent towing a trailer above 15K lbs... .

We've easily got the complete load up to 28K lbs as I've crossed scales at that weight...

Does this help...

My tires are the stock just short of 3200lbs 3195 if I remember correctly. I moved stuff around on the trailer in an effort to get some weight off the rear axle, back to the scales!

According to the Dodge Body Builder Guide, GVWR for a 2009 2WD SRW Mega Cab is 10,100. GAWR front is 4750, GAWR rear is 6200. Normal weight distribution (truck empty) is 4162 front, 2697 rear. If it was a dually, the rear GAWR would be 9360, so obviously the tires are the limiting factor.

Here's the link to the Body Builder Guide, which contains a lot of good information.
